Simply satisfying gifts this Christmas

Well, here we are in the final throws of the Christmas shopping season and if you‘re still struggling to check those last loved ones off of your shopping list, you are not alone! But don‘t fret, there is still time to nail down the perfect present. Allow me to introduce you to the 5 Gifts Guide which is not only useful for Christmas, but any time you‘re faced with gift-giving.

As some of you may already know, I used to be a single mom & undoubtably money was tight, in fact it was nearly non-existent at one point. I will never forget the first Christmas my daughter & I shared alone together in our little red barn. It was humbling but it was quite possibly the most memorable one. The Organized Chick was born out of this time in our little red barn. It was also during this season of navigating single-motherhood for the first time that I was introduced to the 5 Gifts concept & my obnoxiously-frugal, super-practical self has been following it ever since. Its relatively simple & straight forward. The five gifting ideas are: read, need, wear, want & experience. Below you will find a more in depth break down of each one.

Gift Idea #1 | Something to Read

This can be as simple as picking up the latest best seller or you can think outside of the box with a fun magazine subscription. There are a multitude of magazines out there geared toward very specific hobbies & interests so take a stroll through your local Barnes & Noble to see what might be right up your recipient‘s alley. And never underestimate the sentimental value of a classic novel reprint that can serve as a keepsake.

Gift Idea #2 | Something they Need

This naturally can vary greatly based on your recipient‘s age, but a necessity given as a gift can lighten the burden of having to get it themselves. Clothes are always a good go-to gift, but you can also get creative with practical items like car accessories or kitchen items. Teenagers can be some of the hardest individuals to buy for, but pick up some fun car air fresheners, steering wheel cover or rear view mirror ornament and a new driver will be smitten with their gift! And I don‘t know anyone driving age that would turn down a gift certificate for a free oil change or tire rotation. Just saying.

Gift Idea #3 | Something to Wear

Clothes can fit into this one as well, however you can broaden your options with accessories. A beautiful winter scarf, new gloves or socks are all practical options. Or spoil them with a jewelry piece, new purse or nice bag of some kind. Another fun option is to start a Christmas Eve tradition of winter pajamas for them to open & sleep in that night. There‘s nothing like waking up in nice new jammies to see what Santa has brought.

Gift Idea #4 | Something they Want

When in doubt, ask. Have them provide you a short list of items to choose from of things they would want. Just make sure you request them be things they have not already asked other people for to minimize the risk of duplicate gifts. At the end of the day, you will know for certain that you got them something they will enjoy.

Gift Idea #5 | Something to Experience

This one is the one after my own heart! Quality time is
my love language so there is just something so much more valuable about an experience to me. Some practical versions of this would be paying for learning experiences such as dance or music lessons. Annual memberships to a local zoo, museum or theater is a great experience gift for a young family. Concert tickets are always perfect for kids of all ages & trips comes with the added bonus of irreplaceable memories. One year we took our girls to the Polar Express Train up in the mountains as a holiday gift and it was amazing!

Regardless of which gift idea you end up using, at the end of the day the saying is true – it truly is the thought that counts.  I hope this 5 Gifts Guide helps get you out of a gift-giving rut with creative & cost-effective options that bless both the recipients as well as you!
